What is an Obstetrician?

While gynecology deals with your reproductive organs and issues when you’re not pregnant, obstetrics focuses on your body when you are pregnant. All of the doctors at West Coast Women's Specialists offer prenatal care, while some of your procedures, such as ultrasounds, may be scheduled and performed by the obstetrical care coordinator and sonographer. An OB/GYN is always available to answer your questions during and after office hours.

One of the obstetrics specialists at West Coast Women's Specialist will be your delivering physician at Manatee Memorial, which features exceptional neonatal intensive care should you need it.

What is Prenatal Care?

If you’re thinking about getting pregnant, may be pregnant, or are definitely pregnant, schedule a prenatal care consultation at West Coast Women's Specialists. Prenatal care helps you and your baby stay healthy throughout pregnancy.

Prenatal care involves:

  • Nutritional support, including recommendations as to prenatal vitamins
  • Exercise recommendations
  • Regular checkups to review the health of both you and your baby
  • Tests to evaluate your baby’s growth process
  • Evaluations of health conditions, such as high blood pressure or infections, and whether you’re at risk for a complication

You’ll start out seeing your OB/GYN at West Coast Women's Specialists just once each month for the first 28 weeks. Your visits increase to twice per month from weeks 28 to 36 and move to once per week in weeks 36 through birth.
