Behavioral Health Screenings

Many doctors, including ob-gyns, are being trained to recognize signs of anxiety and depression. With a few questions, we can help gauge how you’re feeling emotionally. Think of your ob-gyn’s office as a safe space to share if you’re feeling down or worried. We can talk about the best way for you to get help and refer you to other specialists for additional support.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends behavioral health screenings at every new patient visit, well-woman visit, initial prenatal care visits, 24 to 28-week OB visits and postpartum visits. When we provide this service, our office will bill the behavioral health screening service to your insurance company. This code has a charge associated with it that the insurance company may pass on to you, their member. This means that it may be your responsibility through the deductible, coinsurance, or as a copay.

Hopefully, the insurance companies will make this become part of their Wellness or Preventative coverage soon to make up for this gap in coverage. We are doing our best to educate our patients with the correct information as soon as it becomes available to us. What matters is that you get the recommended screenings and receive the best healthcare from our providers and staff. Please let us know if you have any questions.
